People first

We Are Not About Technology. We Are Not About Engineering. We Are About People.

You already have the room, the printers, and the budget. What you are missing is the people system — who runs the programming, how they are trained, what happens when they leave, and whether any of it survives them. That is the part nobody sells you, and it is the only part that decides whether this works.

Why we exist

A Maker Space Should Make Its Community Different.

We believe a maker space should empower everyone in it — not the confident few — to create positive change in their community. Most of them do not. They become equipment rooms with a booking calendar, used by the same dozen people who were already going to be fine.

The difference is never the machines. It is whether somebody built a system that brings other people in, teaches them, gives them something real to make, and keeps going when the person who started it moves on.

Recognize yourself

Five Ways This Fails. Three of Them Are About People.

Tick the ones that describe you. Most organizations we meet tick three.

What your answers mean

The diagnostic scores all five properly, with evidence, and tells you which two will break first. You keep the report whether or not you buy anything else.

That is the pattern we see most. The diagnostic will tell you which two break first — they are rarely the two you expect.

Nothing here is unusual, and none of it is your fault. It means nobody built the people system underneath. That is what we install.

Student-led, by design

The People Are the Product.

Every engagement is delivered by credentialed engineering undergraduates. Not as volunteers, not as a discount — as consultants, trained and assessed against six competency domains, paid for the work.

They are the person you tried to hire and could not. Someone who can run the equipment, hold a room of forty, and represent your organization to a funder in the same afternoon. That person does not apply for a part-time posting. But they are in their third year, they are already good, and they will do it for a credential that means something and a rate that respects it.

Six domains
Technical fluency Facilitation Curriculum delivery Professional representation Safety and compliance Systems and documentation
PayEvery consultant is paid the same rate on every engagement, whatever you paid to book it. Your tier decides what we earn. It never decides what they earn.
SupervisionA member of your staff is named in advance and present throughout every deployment. The same coverage you would provide on any field trip, written into the agreement rather than assumed.
Modular by design

Building Blocks, Not a Bespoke Project.

Nothing here is invented for you from scratch. Programming and service experiences are assembled from tested building blocks — one, three, and five-day architectures, facilitator guides, materials lists, logistics plans, and fallback plans for when the equipment fails.

That is what makes it plug and play. You are not commissioning a program. You are choosing from things that already run, configured to your space, your audience, and your staff.

Why it mattersIt is also what makes it yours afterwards. A bespoke project leaves when the consultant leaves. Building blocks stay, and your people can recombine them without us.

AttributionThis track record was built running the K–12 engineering outreach program at the University of Louisville’s J.B. Speed School of Engineering. It is stated as the operator’s experience, not as work performed by this practice. Speed School affiliation is biography — it is not the offering, and no client engagement is delivered under university auspices.

Start With the Diagnostic.

Fifteen minutes, and you keep the report either way. If the answer is that you do not need us, we would rather tell you that in week one than in month six.
